RAB-10 rescued the kidnapped child Salman (4) from Sadarghat area of Chittagong city in connection with the kidnapping of a four-year-old child from Kamrangirchar area of Keraniganj, Dhaka and demanded a large ransom. RAB-10 gave the information through a press conference on Tuesday (July 18) night.
The arrested are said to be Md Shafayet Hossain @Abir (19) son of Md Abdul Quddus of Bhairab area of Kishoreganj and Md Al-Amin (17) son of Hafez Md Shahidul Islam of Ghosaighat area of Shariatpur.
According to the police in the press conference, on July 15, 2023, the son of Maulana Imdadullah, who lives in Mominbagh area of Kamrangirchar, Dhaka, was abducted while playing in front of Salman Basa. Later, the victim’s family searched all possible places and filed a general diary at the capital’s Kamrangirchar police station without finding the victim. whose general diary no-829 and whose date is 15 July 2023.
Later, on July 16, an unknown person called the victim’s family and informed about the victim’s kidnapping and threatened the victim’s family demanding ransom. After that, the victim’s family made a written request to RAB-10 to rescue the victim. In view of this, RAB increased intelligence surveillance with the aim of rescuing the abducted victims and arresting the abductors as soon as possible.
In continuation of this (July 17), an raiding team of RAB-7 and 10 conducted a joint operation in the Ice Factory Road area under Sadarghat police station of Chittagong based on the information technology support of the information technology and the review of various CCTV footages around the incident site, Md Shafayet Hossain @Abir and Arrested Md. Al-Amin (17) and rescued the kidnapped child.
During the preliminary interrogation, the arrested persons gave information about their involvement in the abduction of Salman.
The police said that during the preliminary investigation, it was learned that the arrested Shafayet and Al-Amin were living as tenants in the house next to the victim. About 3 months ago, they planned to abduct the victim while playing sports in front of their house and chose the time when the victim’s father was in Saudi Arabia to perform the holy Hajj. As per the plan, Al-Amin bought the victim chips, chocolates, toys, etc. at various times and gained rapport and intimacy with him.
According to the earlier plan, Al-Amin kidnapped the victim while playing in front of the victim’s house on July 15 around 4:00 PM and took the victim to another associate of Al-Amin’s acquaintance, Helal, in the Madbar Bazar area of Kamrangirchar. In transition, Helal took the victim to Chittagong and asked Shafayet and Al Amin to go to Chittagong. After going to Chittagong, the victim was kept at the house of Helal’s known Ayyub.
The police also said that later the arrested person contacted the victim’s family through his mobile phone and informed the victim about the kidnapping and demanded a ransom of Rs 15 lakh. The victim’s family paid Tk 5000 to the arrested through mobile banking and at one stage of the conversation, the kidnappers agreed to return the victim for Tk 5 lakh and asked them to come to Chittagong’s New Market area with the ransom money. According to the kidnappers, the victim’s family assured them that they were going to Chittagong with the ransom money and requested that no harm be done to the victim.
The arrested persons said that as the victim’s family was late in bringing the ransom money, they ran out of time and changed their location and traveled by train between Feni and Chittagong, taking the child Al Amin and Shafayet. The arrested persons left the victim Shafayet and Al Amin with Ayub at Chittagong railway station and proceeded to New Market area of Chittagong to collect the ransom money. RAB continues to monitor the payment of ransom money to the kidnappers with great prudence, and with the aim of arresting the kidnappers, the joint raiding team of RAB-7 and 10 is stationed in the area from the east.
When the arrested persons appeared at the designated place to collect their demanded money, RAB was able to arrest them. According to the information provided by RAB arrested, when Ayub reached Chittagong railway station area to rescue the victim, he left the victim alone in Chittagong railway station footover bridge area after realizing the presence of RAB. Later RAB rescued the victim from there.
